The State Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden of Assam is one of the main attractions of the city of Guwahati. The Assam state zoo has some rare and extinct species of wildlife. Open enclosures house swamp tapirs, tigers, leopards, the famous one-horned rhinos and a rich bird life. There are as some as 277 kinds of birds in the zoo. The zoo has collected 44 forms of orchids from the northeastern part of India. The zoo also has the African two-horned rhino.
Kaziranga is situated on the banks of river Bramhaputra. It is located in Assam, a state in the north eastern region of India.
Kaziranga National Park: The Kaziranga national park is spread in a wide area of 430 sq-kms and almost looks like a never ending forest. This is the reason why Kaziranga National Park was given the status of Wildlife sanctuary in the year of 1940. The national park consists of swampland and tall grass which it just apt for the residence of Indian One-horned Rhino, which is very commonly found in this place. If you ever visit the sanctuary using a jeep or elephant safari, you are likely to view some of the rarest species of avian creatures which you may have not seen yet in your life and hence it is a popular attraction for tourists as well as naturalists.
